SCROLL
Dr. Cruz is a chemist and innovator working at the frontier of polymer science, nanomaterials, and green chemistry. His career reflects a commitment to rigorous scientific discovery paired with a vision for real-world impact.
Cruz earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge, where he pioneered research on supramolecular fibers and nanocomposites. He later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Ottawa, advancing polymer dielectrics for organic electronics. In 2025, he was selected as a Cyclotron Road/Activate Fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
As a founding scientist at Edulis Labs, Cruz is driving the development of a new paradigm in hair dye chemistry — replacing allergenic, cancer-linked, and eco-toxic dyes with safe, sustainable, high-performance alternatives. His broader research portfolio spans self-assembling polymers, supramolecular host-guest systems, nanostructured materials, and translational chemistry, with applications ranging from healthcare to consumer products.
Cruz’s research integrates fundamental chemistry with applied innovation. His work has been published in leading journals such as Advanced Materials, Science Advances, Macromolecules, Polymer Chemistry.
Key Research Themes:
Supramolecular Polymer Assemblies – Elucidating host-guest interactions for novel nanocomposites and responsive fibres.
Green & Sustainable Chemistry – Designing bio-inspired pigment platforms and non-toxic chemical alternatives.
Nanomaterials & Interfaces – Exploring colloidal, fiber, and polymer systems with unique surface and mechanical properties.
Polymer Electronics – Developing water-soluble, reversible photo-cross-linking dielectrics for next-generation devices.
Author of peer-reviewed publications and several manuscripts in preparation, Cruz has contributed to advancing both academic science and its practical applications.
Dr. Cruz welcomes opportunities for collaboration, speaking engagements, and partnerships that bridge chemistry with impact-driven innovation.
